Brogue Trader
Chetwynd full wing tip brogue, £340
One of several (re)emerging trends this year is
the ‘heritage chic’ of the classic British brogue,
notably from Church & Co. While not necessarily
the sexiest (or cheapest) footwear, the brogue is
a whimsical nod to bygone days, when British
summertime brought bee stings, sunburn and
ration books. Things may not be that bad (yet),
but we nevertheless welcome a safe, sturdy pair
of shoes which can last more than one season.
This latest fad has a twist, as females are as
likely to embrace it as their male counterparts.
Ladies, think Sienna Miller and Kiera Knightly in
the 1940s-based Dylan (Thomas, that is) biopic,
Edge of Love, and partner Church’s brogues with
some knee-high socks. Men, a jaunty, coloured
sock will give your kicks a humourous lift.
