Bright Idea
Washer light by Thomas Payne
In response to the ‘tartan tat’ which fills many of our tourist gift shops, Edinburgh College of Art Product Design graduate Thomas Payne has launched his New Souvenirs collection of interior design products.
Available exclusively through the Edinburgh design shop Moleta Munro, the collection features both ready to buy products and design prototypes, which, it is planned, will go into production if they prove a hit with the public.
All of the products, including lighting designs, plates, mugs and cushions, are made in collaboration with local craftspeople. For example, Thomas worked with Sandra Brown of Granton-based Creative Ceramics to produce his design for a porcelain light-shade and with Edinburgh-based illustrator Trine Mangersnes to put her impression of St Giles Cathedral on a set of porcelain plates.
