Winter Woollies

This season’s welcome trend is not only super-comfortable, but also eclectic and economical, writes Grainne Byrne.

If you want to rock the grunge look over the festive period, this laddered knit top from ASOS (£38) is the cool, nonchalant number for you. Great for wearing with skirts and fashion’s biggest footwear trend, the biker boot. www.asos.com

Year after year knitwear is the sure-fire comeback queen in winter time, when it’s practical to keep warm, but still important to look hot.

Perhaps not the preference of every knitwear fan is the revival of 1980s-style, oversized, embellished knitted sweaters, a trend which our favourite High Street stores have sensitively revived for some cool ways to wear wool.

Whatever you wear this winter, make sure you’re wrapped up in style. You never know who ewe might bump into! l

For indoor winter wear grab a pair of Snowlake Pom-Pom knitted moccasins from Marks & Spencer (£12) to keep you comfy and stylish when chilling at home.
Whether in sub-zero Siberia or wind-blown Princes Street Gardens, this Mongolian Scarf from River Island (£34.99) is long enough to wrap around both you and your loved one. Also shown: Aztec felted coat, £59.99; Slouch soft knit cardigan, £29.99; Flannel leggings, £17.99; Leather Naomi tassel bag, £199; Fierce over-knee boots, £140
Dorothy Perkins has a fantastic range for winter with lots of oversized jumpers, knitted dresses and accessories, such as the Dynasty-inspired, off- shoulder sweater (£35) – perfect for a casual look teamed with leggings or tights and heels for hitting the tiles.
If you’d rather retire to your softer side by snuggling up in a kitsch but cool knitted number, then this feline Intarsia Kitty Knit Dress from Joy (£55) is perfect for ladies who, like their cats, would rather be by the ireside than in the moshpit. www.joythestore.com
